Working for foreign clients and professionals
We enjoy handling work with international aspects. It gives our firm a broader and fresh
dimension. It interests our lawyers and we believe that experience of the cultures and legal
systems of other countries enables us to provide better and more rounded legal advice to clients
generally.
We have 250 years of client service - we are a modern and progressive firm with attractive
offices at the heart of "Legal London" within convenient reach of the London airports. Our
qualities are our people, teamwork and a forward looking approach-we always want to improve.
Our specialisations include cross-border mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures; property
investment; intellectual property and services for the private client including immigration and tax
advice. We have extensive experience of advising clients who are setting up businesses (see our guide to establishing a business in
the UK).
Our international work also includes resolving disputes by arbitration and other means of
alternative dispute resolution, please see our guide to Litigation for Foreign Clients. Partner Matthew Marsh holds a Diploma in
International Arbitration and is a practising arbitrator. We are members of the International Court
of Arbitration and the London Court of International Arbitration. We are also Privy Council
Agents.
We have extensive experience of costs - border debt collection both disputed and undisputed. Our
DebtManage service provides a speedy cost-effective route for the recovery of undisputed debts. For

Cross-border work for UK clients
We understand how important it is for UK clients to have expert legal assistance not only in
this country but also overseas. For many years, we have assisted our clients with their
cross-border work using a series of formal and informal links with high quality law firms and other
professionals across the world.
We are founding and leading members of two international law firm alliances, World Link for Law and Nomos, with offices in 40 countries. Both of these are
non-exclusive organisations which means that we are free to work with other foreign law firms as
well. This provides us with the flexibility to meet the wide range of client needs. We also, of
course, willingly work with your preferred lawyers.
We project manage international transactions and business to ensure that you do not encounter
difficulties when dealing with law firms in jurisdictions with which you are unfamiliar. Of
critical importance is the maintenance of common work methods or, if this is difficult to
standardise, then at least work methods that are harmonious. In our experience, attitudes to
business, and the time scale surrounding delivery may vary from country to country. We are used to
accommodating this and we ensure that your expectations are met, be they in Europe, USA or
elsewhere.
We have a number of multi-lingual lawyers who are able to work with law firms and foreign
businesses in their own language.
We facilitate foreign business in a number of ways. We:-
- can conduct business where necessary in French, German, Italian, Portuguese and;
- produce documents in foreign languages;
- use a network of top quality translators and interpreters;
- have great experience in working with overseas lawyers;
- have lawyers who are experts in comparative law;
- travel regularly and willingly;
- give quick advice that is easy to understand;
- conduct meetings by video conferencing;
- have a 24 hour message taking service; and
